OGG

Ogg Vorbis is a fully Open, non-proprietary, patent-and-royalty-free, general-purpose compressed audio format for high quality (44.1-48.0kHz, 16+ bit, polyphonic) audio and music at fixed and variable bit rates from 16 to 128 kbps/channel.

Ogg Vorbis is a popular free (as in free from patents) encoder, of a higher quality than Mp3 - most players support Ogg through a plug-in. Ogg supports full ID Tagging where track information (Artist etc) is imbedded within the music file. Ogg support is just appearing on portable players, such as the Rio Karma.

So, What all the stuff aboveactually means”.

OGG is the audio format like MP3 and OGG Player is software to run OGG format audio on your Mobile or smartphones.

Well, I guess we all are familiar with MP3, yes, MP3 which are in our PCs, mobile, cars and blah blah… So as MP3, Ogg is another popular free audio format. So, what MP3 does it also do

but what’s so GOOD about it??

1) First, Ogg is open source project thing, so its free, so u don’t have to pay for it (legally) and like MP3 you don’t have to use some illegal keys to run OGG.

2) You don’t care if its free or not, ok, the second thing, it takes less space and gives better quality. For lower bitrate (remember 128 kbps,192kbps etc) it gives better audio quality than MP3.

3) Ok, the Mobile thing, yes its latest in mobile software these days UltraMP3 is passé. OggPlayer is in thing. Ogg player gives you choice to organize audio(songs) as they are in your PC with artist name, genre type, playlist (haven’t figured till now on my N6600) and more ways.

How to do it? See below.

4) Ok, this is not that important but I liked it, there is a file of RANDOM RINGTONE which can be used to play different ringtone for your ogg songs (yes, the complete song).

So now, on computer you can use winamp to play OGG or on MOBILE use ogg player.

Ok, some things you won’t be happy about, as OGG is still gaining popularity, it’s still new. So if you install its older version software there will be some problem, so go for latest stable software of OGG. Well don’t worry, plus its not widely in circulation as MP3 but its still very favourite among its user.

----------------------------------------

All the downloads are small sized.

So, if you liked it, read on HOW TO DO IT ON MOBILE.

1) Go to http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/ . Download Ogg player .SIS file(go for MMF version, if you are confused, it will mostly work). This might be zipped so unzip it on your computer and transfer it to your Phone using BLUETOOTH DONGLE or MEMORY CARD READER. and select your phone type and get the

Alternatively, get the .Sis file from your friend’s mobile via Bluetooth or infrared.

2) Ok, so you got OGG player so you can get ogg audio from your friends or you can convert almost any audio to .OGG(including MP3). For it, you have to install a converter; the best thing is to go for, DbPoweramp Converter.

www.dbpoweramp.com

This software allows you to convert Mp3, wav etc. to OGG. But read next step before also.

3) But when you use, Dbpoweramp converter, it will allow to select which MP3 or so you want to convert, but OGG codec might not be there, its simple, it will ask if you want to download that codec from Net, say YES, its very small download.

Once this codec download is over, you can convert almost any song format say MP3 to OGG.

4) What’s next, transfer OGG songs with Bluetooth dongle or memory card reader or USB cord. And play it on your mobile.

-----------------------------------------

TIPS

1) Trying tinkering with tags using the Dbpoweramp software until its in trial is not over.

2) RANDOM RINGTONE, read the “Readme.txt”. Ok, you don’t want to read it, put a file “random_ringing_tone” which comes along with .sis file of ogg player, in the folder where all the your ogg songs are. Go to your mobile PROFILES, go to ringtone, select “random_ringing_tone” file, and activate that profile, so a random ringing tone everytime.
